Customize Prompt Assistant to fit your workflow and manage your account.

Accessing Settings

Open Settings in one of these ways:

  • Click the Settings tab in the popover
  • Right-click the menu bar icon and select "Settings..."
  • Use the keyboard shortcut Cmd+,

Account Settings

Manage your profile and subscription in the Account tab.

Profile

  • Name - Your display name (editable)
  • Email - Your account email (read-only)
  • Avatar - Profile picture displayed in the app

Subscription

View your current plan status:

  • Plan name - Free or Pro
  • Status - Active, Trialing, or Canceled
  • Credits - Remaining prompt improvements
  • Renewal date - When credits reset (Pro only)

Click "Manage Subscription" to upgrade, downgrade, or cancel your subscription.

Account Actions

  • Change Password - Update your account password
  • Sign Out - Log out of your account

Custom Instructions

Set personal instructions that apply to every prompt improvement. This is powerful for maintaining consistency across all your prompts.

What to Include

  • Brand voice - "Always use a professional but friendly tone"
  • Language preferences - "Use British English spelling"
  • Style guidelines - "Keep prompts concise, under 200 words"
  • Domain context - "I work in healthcare, consider HIPAA when relevant"

Examples

Marketing Professional

"I create content for a B2B SaaS company. Our brand voice is professional yet approachable. Avoid jargon. Focus on benefits over features. Our target audience is CTOs and engineering managers."

Digital Artist

"I create fantasy art for game assets. Prefer detailed, painterly descriptions. Always include lighting direction and color palette. Default aspect ratio is 16:9."

Character Limit

Instructions are limited to 2,000 characters. The counter shows your current usage.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Customize global hotkeys in the Shortcuts tab.

Available Shortcuts

Changing Shortcuts

  1. Go to Settings > Shortcuts
  2. Click on the shortcut you want to change
  3. Select a new key from the dropdown
  4. The shortcut updates immediately

Note: The modifier keys (Cmd+Shift) are fixed. You can only change the letter/number key.

General Settings

Preferences

  • Launch at Login - Start Prompt Assistant automatically when you log in to macOS
  • Show Notifications - Display system notifications for certain events
  • Default Skill - Set a default skill instead of Auto-detect

Permissions

View and manage macOS permissions. Each permission shows:

  • Current status (granted or not)
  • Grant button to open System Settings

Updates

  • Check Now - Manually check for app updates
  • Version info - Current app version and build number

Password & Security

Changing Password

  1. Go to Settings > Account
  2. Click "Change Password"
  3. Enter your current password
  4. Enter and confirm new password
  5. Click "Update Password"

Password Requirements

  • Minimum 8 characters
  • At least one uppercase letter
  • At least one lowercase letter
  • At least one number

Forgot Password

  1. On the login screen, click "Forgot Password?"
  2. Enter your email address
  3. Check your email for a reset link
  4. Click the link to set a new password

Data & Privacy

Your data is stored securely:

  • Credentials - Stored in macOS Keychain (encrypted)
  • Settings - Stored locally on your Mac
  • History - Stored on our secure servers
